Microsoft has given itself less than 8 years to find another billion PC users. To help meet that goal, the company has pledged to sell $3 bundles of Windows XP and Office to governments that provide schools with free computers. That’s two percent the cost of Office alone.

Microsoft has released a new Windows Media plug-in for Firefox which allows you to use Windows Media Player inside the Firefox browser. The new plug-in supports Windows XP SP2 and Vista including the 64 bit versions of both OSes.

’t already, the explosion of growth in free 411 services should have them lobbying congress for protective legislation in the near future. Earlier today I ran across yet another free 411 service, Tellme, that joins the growing ranks of free 411 options like those from Google and Free411.

IRS Deadline extension until midnight, April 19! April 17, 2007

People directly affected by the storm that hit the Northeast on Sunday and Monday are entitled to a two-day extension for filing their tax returns, the Internal Revenue Service said Monday. Affected taxpayers, in order to avoid incurring late fees, should mark their paper tax returns with the words “April 16 Storm,” the IRS said.

Royal Dutch Shell is patenting a technique to convert shale to petroleum at a cost of only about $30/barrel. If it works, the world’s single largest source of oil would be… the United States. What would the world be like if all the oil in Saudi Arabia, Iran, Venezuela, Russia, Iraq, Nigeria, and elsewhere was suddenly nearly worthless?
